Young's Seafood Limited Young's Seafood Limited has hired marine biologist David Parker in a senior role to fur- ther deepen the company's expertise in fish. His work at Young's will involve re- searching emerging sources of sustainable seafood for new products, working with fishermen and fish farmers on their improvement initia- tives and providing support and advice to customers who want to further grow the sustainable fish category. He will also play a crucial role in implementing Young's Fish for Life program on respon- sible fish procurement. Dowd joined Trident in 2004 as a business adviser to top man- agement and was appointed president of Trident's domes- tic operations in August of 2006. At the time of his death, Dowd was spearheading a major expansion of Trident's China operations, moving the company into a new interna- tional market. Cynthia Parsons, 64, a long- time employee of Wards Cove Packing Co. in Seattle, passed away in Seattle on May 5. She first worked at Wards Cove in 1992 as secre- tary and personal assistant to Alec Brindle, the then presi- dent of the company. Michael Turner, 57, died July 4 while sailing his boat in Puget Sound. His seafood ca- reer began with Andy Vitaljic of Hannegan Seafood/Amer- ican-Canadian Fisheries. He also worked for Booth Fisher- ies, Interocean Seafoods, Sea- food Producers Cooperative, E&E; Foods, Voyager Sea- food, Eco-Pacific Seafood and Bornstein Seafoods. "Dollar stores need to remember the family size today and that everyone in the family doesn't eat the same thing" says Johnson. Tastee Choice has sold its wild salad shrimp in Dollar Tree stores since early 2011, but President Jose Tomas is unsure whether the company will continue selling to the chain. "Te price of shrimp worldwide has gone up, and Dollar Tree may not be able to sustain that increase," he says. Tastee Choice's plant is in south India, and producers there are having a difficult time getting the small salad shrimp because it is more profitable to go after larger shrimp. "We requested a slight price increase to Dollar Tree to combat increasing fuel prices worldwide. Tey will let us know if they can keep the product on their shelves for $1," says Tomas.
