People in the News Alaska Sea Grant Paula Cullenberg is the new director of Alaska Sea Grant at the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. She replaces previous director David Christie. Formerly, she was Alaska Sea Grant associate director, beginning in 2007, and was Marine Advisory Program (MAP) leader since 2004. Cullenberg also serves as co-chair of the state's Fisheries, Seafood and Maritime Initiative. Prior to leading MAP, Cullenberg directed the North Pacifc Fishery Observer Training Center at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and was the Bristol Bay MAP agent. Ginny Eckert, associate professor of fsheries at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, also joined Alaska Sea Grant as associate director for research. ASMI Te Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) in Juneau named commercial fsherman Kevin Adams as chairman. He replaces outgoing chairman Joe Bundrant of Trident Seafoods. Adams has more than 38 years of commercial fshing experience in Bristol Bay. He has an extensive background in seafood marketing and has served as an advocate for commercial fshermen throughout Alaska. He was originally appointed to the ASMI board of directors as the harvester representative in 2004. Adams has also served as the United Fishermen of Alaska at-large board representative since 2011 and was recently elected to his second two-year term. culinary arts, foodservice management, operations and sales. Prior to joining Bettcher, he held positions with a number of high-visibility foodservice companies, including Wasserstrom Co. and Sysco Corp., where he worked for nearly 15 years in a variety of functions. SIRF OCTOBER Bettcher Foodservice John Oleksiak joined Bettcher Foodservice in Birmingham, Ohio, as product marketing manager. In this position, he develops, implements and manages marketing initiatives for the company's foodservice equipment and products. Oleksiak has more than 20 years of experience in Seafood Calendar Nancy Osorio is the new regional VP of sales, northern division, for Californiabased seafood distributor Santa Monica Seafood. Osorio has worked in foodservice for more than 20 years, most recently as VP of sales and marketing for Central Coast Seafood. She was on the management team for California Polytechnic State University's dining program for more than 16 years. Te Seafood Industry Research Fund (SIRF) in McLean, Va., appointed Mary Larkin of Diversifed Business Communications to its board of directors. Larkin is group VP and publisher of SeaFood Business and SeafoodSource.com, and oversees Seafood Expo North America, Seafood Expo Global, Seafood Barcelona and the Asian Seafood Exposition. Larkin joined Diversifed in 1995 as an account executive. SIRF was established in 1964 to fund research grants to colleges, universities and other institutions for seafood industry research. It is supported entirely by voluntary contributions from individuals and companies in, and related to, the seafood industry.
