Seafood Calendar Top Story Continued from page 26 All leading U.S. seafood frms are privately or familyowned and are not obligated to report sales to the media; their voluntary participation is appreciated. Corporations based in foreign countries like Japan, Tailand and South Korea own several companies on the list; we ask them to single out their North American business interests. Participants are ofered the option of providing a sales range or an estimate instead of a specifc number. For companies that decline to participate, their sales carry over from the previous year, but for only one year; companies that decline two consecutive years are removed from the list. Calls were made to more than 40 companies across the continent, including some that have reported their sales in the past but no longer do so. Tere are four noteworthy frms that don't report annual sales estimated at $1 billion or more, including former No. 1 company Trident Seafoods of Seattle, which last confrmed sales of $1.25 billion-plus in 2009. Red Chamber of Vernon, Calif., hasn't shared its results since 2006, when it posted more than $1 billion in sales. And the last time that Pacifc Seafood of Clackamas, Ore., disclosed its annual sales was in 2005, when it generated $874 million. Maruha Nichiro Holdings, a Japanese conglomerate with U.S. headquarters in Seattle, also does not report its sales; its U.S. holdings include Westward Seafoods and Peter Pan Seafoods of Seattle, Orca Bay Seafoods of Renton, Wash., and Trans Ocean Products of Bellingham, Wash. may www.greatamericanseafood May 17-19 Cooking for Solutions Aug. 9-12 Monterey Bay Aquarium Monterey Bay, Calif., U.S. (831) 644-7561 www.montereybay Aquaculture Europe May 18-21 Aug. 13-16 National Restaurant Association Show Aqua Nor McCormick Place Chicago, U.S. (312) 853-2525 Norwegian University of Science and Technology Trondheim, Norway Oct. 22-24 H Seafood Barcelona Fira de Barcelona Gran Via Barcelona, Spain (207) 842-5504 Trondheim Spektrum Trondheim, Norway Oct. 27-30 september Seafood Directions 2013 May 22-26 Sept. 3-5 Thaifex World of Food Asia H Asian Seafood Exposition IMPACT Exhibition Center Bangkok, Tailand Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre Wanchai, Hong Kong (207) 842-5504 juNe Sept. 28-Oct. 4 Bali International Conference Center Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland St. John's Newfoundland, Canada (709) 778-0345 June 30-Jul. 2 OCtOber World Bali Seafood Show Fancy food Show Jacob K.
