STRASBOURG, France European Parliament passes sweeping ���shery reform bill T he European Parliament passed a sweeping ���shery policy reform bill, to the delight of environmental groups and the European Commission, which hailed it as a step toward responsible ���shing. Te law, which reformed the EU���s Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), passed by a vote of 502 to 137, with 27 abstentions. GALWAY, Ireland Study: sea lice don���t threaten wild salmon A study by the Marine Institute and National University of Ireland determined that sea lice are not a signi���cant threat to wild salmon stocks. Published in the Journal of Fish Diseases, the study examined 350,000 ���sh in eight rivers in 28 separate experiments over a nine-year period. Unicord manufactures private-label canned tuna and frozen seafood. Te Helsinki-based NGO Finnwatch Association accused TUM and Unicord of a multitude of labor violations after it interviewed employees at canned tuna plants operated by both companies.
